Stepping in where Obama and the U.S. Justice Department feared to tread, Occupy Wall Street and WBAI Radio put the financial giant Goldman Sachs on trial for crimes against the American public in an exciting “people’s tribunal.”
Presiding over this extraordinary trial amidst the looming towers of Wall Street were Princeton University professor and civil rights activist Cornel West, and Pulitzer Prize winning author Chris Hedges. Moderated by WBAI Interim Program Director Tony Bates, the trial featured passionate testimony from those whose lives were destroyed by the criminal behavior of Goldman Sachs. Completely open to the public, the trial drew large crowds (and equivalent numbers of police). At its conclusion, a verdict and sentence were pronounced on the 1% by the assembled 99%.
